When a composite material is subjected to a time varying strain field, energy is dissipated because of the thermoelastic effect (elastothermodynamic damping or ETD). Evaluation of ETD in particle-reinforced MMCs has been reported in literature. These works follow a quasi-static approach. In the present work, a full dynamic solution for the energy dissipation is obtained, using the entropic approach. It is observed that the specific damping capacity predicted by the dynamic solution deviates from the quasi-static solution at high normalized frequencies, for low inclusion radius and low volume fraction.
