An analysis of the deep groove rolling contact problem reveals in the absence of relative spin between the elements the existence of a nondimensional parameter, characteristic of the problem, by which relevant factors such as load, geometrical configuration, elastic constants of the material, and coefficient of friction can be correlated. In this paper the existence of this nondimensional parameter is established and its use as an aid to the selection of bearing materials and parameters is considered.
