We are pleased to present this special issue of ASME-JSEE to honor Professor Frank Kreith for his lifetime accomplishments and contributions to the field of solar energy. Professor Kreith is the founding editor of the ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering and served as its Editor-in-Chief from 1980 until 1987. He just celebrated his 91st birthday and continues to contribute actively to the solar energy field and the profession. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado, where he continues to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in heat transfer and sustainable energy, and supervise graduate students' theses in the solar energy field.
