Nitin Goel received the 2004 ASME Solar Energy Division Graduate Student Award for his work on the combined power and cooling thermodynamic cycle proposed by Professor Yogi Goswami. Goel was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1978, and received his Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. Currently he is pursuing his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida. Goel’s continuing research focuses on the absorption and desorption processes for the "Combined Power and Cooling Thermodynamic Cycle." The cycle is an innovative combination of an ammonia-based Rankine cycle and an ammonia–water absorption refrigeration cycle. It can use source temperatures as low as 70°C, making it a useful power cycle for low-cost solar thermal collectors, geothermal resources, and waste heat from existing power plants.
