A numerical dynamic simulation model of the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of a sodium-cooled advanced central receiver solar electric power plant has been developed. The model was used to determine the optimum receiver temperature control system configuration. Independent feedback control of each of the 24 receiver panels was found to be an adequate method of receiver outlet coolant temperature control. The degree of hydraulic panel coupling was found to be small. Arbitrarily inducing instability in one panel does not affect the operation or control of the other panels. The results should also be applicable to similar molten salt receivers.
