The Ayyub-Wiechel Risk Analysis Award has been established by Safety Engineering & Risk Analysis Division (SERAD) to honor individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the field of risk, reliability, and safety through their work in practice, research, teaching, and leadership. SERAD has a rich history of recognizing researchers in the areas of safety, risk, and reliability. In 1986, SERAD established the student contest on safety innovation challenge, catering to undergraduate and graduate students. Since its inception, these awards have been offered annually with several other awards. This prestigious award, initially established by SEARD in 2015 and subsequently elevated to a Society award in 2024, pays tribute to the distinguished work of Professor Bilal M. Ayyub and Dr. John F. Wiechel in the realms of risk and reliability research, as well as practical safety studies.
