Abstract

The increasing use of bonded composites has increased interest in detecting potential defects. In this study, we examined the structural integrity of the bonded zone of the single lap joint and characterized the associated crack propagation by using the extend finite element method (XFEM) technique. Furthermore, a probabilistic machine learning approach is employed to estimate the remaining useful life of the structure. Our findings provide valuable insights into detecting the health condition of bonded composites and can aid in developing effective maintenance strategies for ensuring long-term safety and reliability.
