Abstract

In general, to prevent further damage to the equipment and components of a piping system and to avoid environmental issues caused by the leakage of hazardous fluids, any leaks that occur must be removed promptly. On the other hand, industries attempt to maintain continuous and uninterrupted production and, if possible, prevent sudden and forced shutdowns of the system. Therefore, the use of methods for leak repair during service is of particular importance and interest. Since the geometric and structural conditions of a bonnet valve often make it impossible to apply the conventional flange-based leak repair method for online leak sealing, this paper presents a method for online leak sealing of bonnet valves using compound injection. The compliance with the pneumatic testing requirements as per the API 598 standard confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method.
