Pipe supports on high-temperature critical piping can fail due to unexpected high loading conditions, inadequate design, incorrect installation or operational errors. Riser clamps are particularly susceptible to failure because of their torsion and moment loading. Since likely failure locations are invariably hidden under insulation, a technique is described to determine when further investigation is warranted. Likely failure locations and types of recommended tests are also described.
