Abstract

In this article, phased array ultrasonic technique (PAUT)-based two inspection methods for detection and sizing of both circumferential and axial cracks in a shaft specimen are described. Regression analyses of measured heights of cracks are carried out to determine the comparative detection and sizing capabilities of both the methods. Alternate nondestructive test (NDT) techniques are suggested for length estimation of surface and internal cracks. Similar types of real-life components can be inspected by these techniques.
