Abstract

Introduction: Telemedicine is a wide, ever-evolving field that is essential for reaching patients in remote and underserved areas all over the world. This systematic review explores cutting edge telemedical technologies focused on the facilitation of perception and interaction at a distance. Methods: A systematic search was executed on PubMed and IEEE Xplore using keywords (telemedicine or telesurgery) and (visual or vision or perception or interaction) and (3D or touch or body sound or auscultation or palpation) and (remote) NOT (review). Results: The search provided a window into the current state of telemedical technologies ranging from haptic feedback interfaces for telepalpation to mixed reality systems for surgical telementoring and AI-driven image-based diagnostics in wound care categorization. Discussion: Analysis of these technologies aims to provide an overview of their current state and potential for future advancements in telemedicine. The landscape of telemedical technologies is ever changing and seeing rapid advancement towards a better future where healthcare is safer, more efficient and more accessible.
