Angioplasty is a balloon expansion treatment that is widely used for narrowed or obstructed blood vessels. In terms of material properties, there are three different types of angioplasty balloons: (highly) compliant [1], noncompliant [2], and low (or intermediate)-complaint balloons [3]. A low-compliant balloon possessing a medium compliance was designed to deliver high pressure yet keep a certain amount of compliance to provide a uniform pressure distribution. There have been several studies comparing the different compliant characteristics between compliant and noncompliant balloons [1,4]. However, no significant difference in their outcomes and conclusive rationale has been found to prefer one balloon to another.
