A number of needs exist for applying biocompatible glues to tissues for treatment of chronic wounds, ulcers, diffuse bleeding, and surgical sealing of organ or vessel tissue. Presently, in situ deposition of glues is achieved through dripping or brushing adhesive solutions directly onto tissues. These application methods could be improved for greater usability and efficacy. This paper describes a novel device which utilizes a combination of coaxial electrospinning and blow-spinning to allow in situ polymer deposition for tissue gluing and welding applications.

Electrospinning is a process that uses a strong electric field (typically an applied voltage of 10–30 kV) to draw nanofibers from a reservoir of polymer solution [1].
