Approximately 1.6 × 106 people in the United States live with limb loss [1]. Although the majority of amputations are performed on the lower extremities, there are still a significant number of upper extremity amputations in the United States, especially due to trauma. Weightlifting is an activity that helps maintain a healthy lifestyle. The importance of strength training is highlighted by the inclusion of specific strength training targets in Healthy People 2020, the nation's road map to improving the health of all individuals living in the United States [2]. Effective weight training can be challenging for individuals who have experienced an amputation. In the case of forearm amputation, there are several products available for weightlifting enthusiasts but most existing devices are designed for bars and dumbbells, which are not as safe as cable-pulley and resistance-band systems.
