In the last few decades, numerous studies have proven the unique properties of fluorescent dyes and their applications. A simple and reliable hand-held fluorometer is constructed to detect fluorescence intensity of molecular probe such as Pyranine (PY). PY, a hydrophilic dye, is a pH-sensitive fluorophore, which re-emits light when excited

(Excitation: 455 nm, Emission: 510 nm). For several applications in medical field, the measurement of pH plays a vital role, from measurement of salivary pH to Vaginal pH.

There is a real demand in the medical field targeting the public health centers for a hand-held device to monitor the pH of biofluids, by avoiding the cost incurred in purchasing a fluoroscope. In this report, we present the design and construction of a hand-held device, which finds its application in measuring the fluorescence intensities of PY.
