This special issue of the ASME Journal of Mechanisms and Robotics (JMR) draws on papers presented at the 46th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference (MR), held as part of the 2022 International Design and Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE 2022), held in St. Louis, Missouri, August 14–17, 2022.
The ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Conference provides researchers with an international platform to present their latest work in the theory and application of mechanical systems, mechanisms, and robotics. MR is a premier meeting event for professional networking and research exchange across the mechanisms and robotics community and provides an international venue where our colleagues present an early glimpse into their highest-quality research. By publishing a selection of papers presented at the conference, we hope to benefit the readership of JMR and the MR community at large.
The majority of papers selected were invited to submit to the issue based on recommendations made by the MR conference and symposium organizers. In addition, an open call for papers invited journal submissions by any paper previously presented at the MR conference. All submitted manuscripts were newly reviewed in compliance with JMR’s review process. The 12 manuscripts accepted for this special issue cover original research in topic areas central to design and analysis of mechanical, mechatronic, and robotic systems, including kinematics, dynamics, novel mechanisms and robots, and other applications.
We are pleased to bring this exciting work together and thank Professor Venkat Krovi for giving us the opportunity to organize this special issue.
