This study considered the measure for bouncing produced on the movable part of an electromagnetic contactor during return. For this purpose, the way of thinking of a dynamic vibration absorber was applied to the collision problem. The results obtained are as follows. (1) The crossbar bounces approximately 3 mm after colliding twice against the housing. (2) Inserting pieces of urethane rubber (AC-6ME material) between the movable core and the crossbar under some conditions reduced the bounce to about one third. (3) This is due to a remarkable hysteresis characteristic of AC-6ME material seen under its compressive deformation.
