Analytical studies are made of the frictional coupling mechanism in multidisk stepless transmissions with internal contact where friction elements have an initial line and point contact. The shapes of contact areas between the disks’ surfaces are considered as “deformed” rectangles and “deformed” ellipses for the line contact and the point contact, respectively. Relationships between the characteristic parameters of the frictional coupling elements are derived and expressed in the form of integrals which can be readily evaluated numerically for the transmission range and efficiency. Numerical results are presented in graphical forms for some values of parameters considered in this study.
