In the kinematic or dynamic synthesis of linkage mechanisms by the precision point method, the established procedures for determining the optimal spacing of the precision points break down if the desired performance curve is to be matched over a full cycle of the input crank. Alternative procedures are proposed, both for first approximations to the optimum spacing and for iterative respacing. These procedures have proved successful in a spring balancing problem.
