An operational hazard of chain saws is the so called kickback phenomenon, a sudden difficult to control rearward and upward reaction of the saw. Kickback can occur when the saw chain on the top quadrant of the bar nose makes initial contact with an obstruction. In the present work some features of chain saw kickback are developed by consideration momentum principles and a certain kinematical assumption.
