Planar symmetrical motions are those planar motions for which, in every position, the fixed and moving centrodes are symmetrical with respect to the pole-tangent. When the centrodes are algebraic curves the motion is called an algebraic symmetrical motion. The concept of kinematic mappings is used to establish the properties of such motions and also to obtain the equations of the paths generated by the points of the moving plane. Finally it is shown how this concept may be used to classify motion.
