Crack growth resistance data have been obtained for a variety of materials as a function of thickness and crack orientation. Resistance to crack extension is determined in terms of the square root of JR which includes crack tip plasticity. To obtain these data elastic and elastic-plastic analyses were performed on the crack line wedge loaded (CLWL) specimen. The data thus obtained can be used as a failure criterion in both plane stress and mixed mode fracture of uniaxially loaded, reinforced structure containing initial or fatigue induced flaws.
