Transmission of vibration by shells of revolution is investigated, with particular emphasis on the effects of shell mass and thickness, internal damping, and edge restraint. Numerical results are given for the truncated conical shell where harmonic axial excitation is assumed at one shell edge, resulting in a harmonic axisymmetric response. Input-response relationships are described by a four element transfer matrix relating force and displacement amplitudes. The matrix elements are obtained by superposition of the results of simultaneous numerical integrations of the shell equations. The results are applied to the case of a conical shell supporting a rigid mass.
