Introduction of the metal removal and wheel wear parameters enable the basic linear laws of grinding to be established. The effects of diamond dressing and wheelspeed upon the metal removal parameter, surface finish, and workpiece geometry are described. Since in a production cycle these outputs are also affected by workpiece hardness and stock conditions, procedures are described whereby each influence may be studied separately and in combination. Finally a method is described which, when applied to a production cycle, compensates for these variations and results in more consistent output quality, with a higher probability of meeting tolerance specifications.
