On a large turboblower running in oil bearings, it was found that the rotor became seriously unstable when the bearing oil temperature was low. It will be shown that this unstable vibration is due to the high bearing number effected by the high oil viscosity and its beating character is caused by the unequal elasticity of the bearing pedestals.
