Abstract

This letter reviews my collaboration with Prof. E.G. Cravalho at MIT, his early work with C.L. Tien and K.R. Diller, and work of J.P. Hebb, C.G. Malone and and M.D. Whale whom we co-supervised. The letter illustrates how Prof. Cravalho's approach to interdisciplinary research serves as a model for today, where mechanical engineering has to incorporate the advances that have been made in data science. It concludes with personal recollections of Ernie.
