Periodic flow of heat and mass, with temperature and vapor-concentration cycles applied at one surface of a permeable slab, is solved analytically for an adsorption-desorption isotherm linear with vapor concentration and with temperature. Magnitude of the energy-transfer coupling effect is demonstrated for water vapor and fiberboard, where differences in time lags for heat and mass transfer at the slab surface opposite to the periodic input may produce an energy outflow when an inflow would be expected.
