Convective heat transfer from a partially dissociated hot gas stream with a Lewis number of 3 was investigated. The hot gas was composed of carbon monoxide and hydrogen resulting from the combustion of oxygen and acetylene. The percentage of atomic and molecular hydrogen by weight was 3.5 percent. A thin molybdenum test plate was mounted in the stream to obtain local heat transfer measurements for parallel flow up to surface temperatures of 3500 deg R. The recombination of atomic hydrogen was found to account for as much as 35 percent of the heat transfer. Results were correlated by theory based on a chemically reacting binary mixture in thermodynamic equilibrium.
