In any major activity of a national engineering society such as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers it is desirable from time to time to look back and review its purpose and philosophy. Quite recently this was done in relation to the ASME Boiler Code.1 The history, aims, and objectives were explored thoroughly as was its usefulness within the Society to the engineering profession at large and in the public interest. This paper is devoted to a study of ASME Power Test Code activities and the philosophy guiding them, as well as some aspects of test codes in general.
