The reader appreciates the experimental data obtained by the authors for the completely sealed squeeze field damper (SFD) performing small amplitude vibrations and the detailed presentation of the test conditions. This would enable further comparisons with different theoretical models.

The model used by the authors for comparisons with measurement is based on the Reynolds equation in the thin film and on a simplified equation of the flow inside the feeding groove. The model of the feeding groove flow does not use its physical depth (9.5 mm) but a modified “effective” one that is around 300 μm (corresponding to 2 or 2.5 times the radial clearance of the SFD).

The authors justify this effective height as being the streamline separating the throughflow region from a recirculation region in a deep groove. This would be close to reality if the groove would be a simple circular deep...
