During the course of an experimental investigation on the effect of cyclic plastic strain on metals , it was observed that under certain conditions materials subjected to cyclic plastic strain showed little stability to simultaneously imposed steady stresses. The present paper describes and interprets some experiments undertaken to learn more about this behavior of real materials.
