This paper discusses the problem of establishing criteria, based on ultrasonic examination, for the acceptance or rejection of large rotor forgings. From the results of trepanning and cutting up a number of such forgings, guide lines are established for determining when trepanning should be used for identification of the ultrasonic discontinuities.
