Professor Hussaini was born in India and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from the University of Madras, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970. He returned to India and joined the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), ultimately becoming the acting division head for aerodynamics and part of the effort that led to the launch of India's first satellite. Following an appointment at NASA Ames, he moved to the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at the NASA Langley Research Center, where he served as a senior staff scientist, chief scientist, and finally, director of the institute.
