The flame initiation and spread characteristics following spark ignition within a subsonically flowing homogeneous stream of methane and air inside a smooth cylindrical long tubular reactor were examined experimentally. The effects of the imposition of flow pulsations of known frequency and amplitude on the combustion processes and the extent of variations observed in the combustion processes when tests were repeated under otherwise identical conditions were also established.
