The structural integrity of pipe structures is of great concern in various industries, and particularly in the nuclear power industry. A pipe structure may include thousands of components, but the failure of just one of those components has the potential to shut down an entire nuclear power station or even to cause a severe threat to public safety. Although pipe structures are critically important, piping analysis has been generally considered as an area of low technology with limited academic relevance.
