This chapter is about starting to become familiar with the content of ASME B16.5: Pipe flanges and flanged fittings. ASME B16.5 is a construction code for the design of new flanges and related fittings such as reducers, tees and similar. It is one of the related codes referenced in API 570 and API 574 and so forms an important (but not particularly large) part of the API 570 examination syllabus.
