Among the concepts the musical thinking of the XXth century are based on, there are principles, like symmetry, which derive from the proportional thinking specific to mathematics. The study depicts the way in which the composer Liviu Glodeanu exploited symmetry to design his own modal range, which he turned into a system, whose elements are tightly interconnected in the musical work Invenţiuni pentru suflători şi percuţie op. 14 (Inventions for Wind Instrumentalists and Percussion Players Opus 14). The study points out how symmetry can be applied to the basic, five intonation element modes, as well as to the reunion modes by means of the set theory.
