Biofuels have been strongly debated due to their, sometimes doubtful, potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They are also debated due to the amounting pressure that they cause on arable land, peat lands, forests, biodiversity, nature preservation and water use. This debate also addresses the potential negative impacts on labor conditions, land rights, and food prices, which may be severely endangered.
