The term “process components” is a very general term that, by definition, covers “…piping [tubing], fittings, gaskets, vessels, valves, pumps, filter housings, and instruments.” Throughout the world there are myriad “sanitary” mechanical joint-type fittings used in the food, dairy, and beverage industries as well as those used in the pharmaceutical and bioprocessing industry. However, the BPE compliant clamp joint assembly is the only mechanical type joint assembly that the BPE Standard recognizes. Chapter 4 discusses the hygienic clamp joint assembly in great detail.
