Gearboxes are a critical element in numerous systems. In wind turbines (WTs), gearbox failure causes 6 days of downtime (Salameh et al. 2018), which stops the production task. Vibration analysis is the conventional method for monitoring electro-mechanical faults in rotating machinery. Its major drawback remains the additional cost and the installation size of the acquisition hardware as well as the complexity of the vibration sensor installation (radial, horizontal, on the bearing housings, on the machine, etc.), which highly affects the quality of the obtained signal and consequently on the efficiency of the fault detection results, which increases the false alarms and the non-detection levels.
