Dismantling old (mainly atmospheric) tanks and reconstructing them on a new site is normal in the USA, although not so common in other countries. The simple welded construction of tanks makes it more feasible than for pressure vessels or piping systems. Reconstruction also gives an opportunity to replace corroded bottoms or other parts, so reconstructed tanks nearly always end up as a hybrid of old and new tanks. This raises three important points.
