In this chapter, we will investigate transient temperature distribution in a large plane concrete wall which is subjected suddenly to convection heat transfer on both surfaces and the initial plane wall temperature, Tw − ini, does not equal to environment’s temperature, Tenv, or Tw − iniTenv, as shown in Figure 19-1. There are several ways we can approach to solve transient temperature distributions in a large plane wall depending upon values of two important non-dimensional numbers. First non-dimensional number is the Biot number given in Equation 19-1 which is the ratio of the conduction heat transfer resistance within the plane wall to convection heat transfer resistance at two surfaces of the plane wall.
