In this chapter, we will cover the explicit finite difference method application to a long triangular prism with radiation heat transfer at its boundaries in a vacuum environment in transient and 2-dimensional mode. Let us investigate the heating of this titanium alloy triangular prism, with insulated ends from an initial temperature of 20 C (293 K) up to 600 C (873 K) at its center of gravity. The triangle is an equilateral one with 1 m sides. Three sides of the long triangular prism are subject to radiation heat transfer from radiation energy sources at 1,000 C (1,273 K) in a vacuum environment as shown in end view in Figure 10-1.
