The majority of offshore installations in the North Sea and other regions of the world can be considered to be ageing installations which have been designed to less stringent criteria than those specified in current standards. Demonstration of adequate structural integrity throughout the installation lifecycle necessitates the reassessment of the structural integrity to current requirements, including the assessment of the loading and capacity associated with extreme storm events.
