The offshore industry in the North Sea and other parts of the world is a mature industry and a significant and ever-increasing proportion of the infrastructure is being operated beyond the original design life. Many structures have needed life extension because of the continued availability of reserves and the need for these structures to be hubs for subsea completions and, with the current focus on the transition to green energy, the re-purposing of platforms may result, in some cases, in the operational being extended potentially by decades.
