The following presentation provides a revision to an earlier version of a new piping standard, ASME B31D. The ASME B31 Mechanical Design Committee balloted that all water hammer equations, reflected wave equations, stress equations, and dynamic load equations, along with figures supporting those equations, would be removed from the Standard. This revised Standard would present a more simplified, qualitative discussion of fluid transients. Even so, this deleted revision to the new Standard provides substantial guidance to piping designers, and is therefore included as an Appendix to this book.
