We develop a mathematical theory of feedback design in this chapter. The plan is that the principles are laid down in this chapter, based on which specific design methodologies are developed in the following chapters. The theory is made for continuous-time applications since these procedures carry over, with little modification, to the discrete-time control. Of course, the theory of discrete-time control requires additional ideas and techniques.
