Over 100 years ago, a long history of failed boiler and pressure vessels led to the development of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Following the creation of this code, there was a precipitous drop in boiler failures. As a result of this history, the ASME BPVC is enshrined in laws or regulations in almost all 50 states, plus the provinces of Canada, as well as in the regulations of the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
