Most pressure vessels have finishes applied to external surfaces either for protection of the vessel from the surrounding environment or for appearance. External finishes may also include advertising for the vessel manufacturer or for the company that assembles the vessel into a system, such as a tank mounted air compressor system. Many vessels also have finishes applied to internal surfaces for protection from the media that they contain.
