There are two approaches to engineering mechanics: (i) Newtonian mechanics and (ii) energy methods. Both approaches lead to the same results; however, in some cases, energy methods can give a more direct solution. Earlier chapters focused on Newtonian mechanics. Newtonian mechanics requires the use of force and acceleration vectors. Energy methods requires only the tracking of energy, a scalar quantity.
